Concept
An ambient piece of clothing to display stock market information and give a snapshot of the global economy. Through a grid of multi-colour LED's sewn into the clothing, the wearer can show a variety of information to succinctly demonstrate whether individual stocks or an entire stock exchange are rising or falling in value. The garment will be linked to web updates and would be automatically updated to provide ongoing displays of data.
Why
With so many news stories and concerns over the economy, this article of clothing would exist as the antithesis of news coverage: a clear view that strips away all the excess statistics and data, and simply explains "up or down?" With only one possibility to be displayed, Information simplicity idea is similar to How Is Obama Doing, a website that only showed Obama's up/down percentage in polls leading up to election day, with no other information needed. Possibilities
- Displaying Dow Jones average: 30 different divisions of light, one for each company. Could display in horizontal/vertical lines, different shapes..
- Display different stock exchanges: TSE, NASDAQ, NYSE, etc. Change between the different exchanges at set intervals. A small LED grid could spell out which is currently being displayed.
- Display stock exchanges of different countries to show how different parts of the world are faring. Interesting variety in stock exchanges available: Bucharest, Ghana, Tehran, Singapore, for example...
- Display only one stock update (Dow Jones or NYSE) per day, updated every morning. Worn simply as a statement of the prior days economic progress.
Technical Equipment
- Lilypad arduino board
- Arduino external power supply
- Bluetooth arduino modem (to update information)
- Flexible LEDs (for embedding in clothing)
- Cell phone to interface with modem (possibly, would be nice to find a more elegant interface solution)
Prior Concepts
- Typographic display of top NASDAQ companies, capable of displaying in two colours (whether stock is going up or down). Would use thermo chromatic ink to alternate between colours.
- Small display mounted along the sleeve of clothing to provide real-time updates of stocks.

power supply
Estimation for 100 leds(ex. 20mA) is 2A. Battery (1,5v) like alcaline 2700mAh.
Notes calculation 2700mA = 2A * 1 Hours = 1,33h
